EMC focus changed from SAN to unified storage

With the inclusion of VNX and VNXe, EMC has forayed into unified market. Normally, known as the the SAN company, has pitched market with the unified series. VNXe supports NFS, CIFS and iSCSI as the storage networking protocols. With the disk drive of SAS and Near-Line SAS (can be regarded as SATA otherwise), the system supports a maximum number of drives as 120.

VNX on the other hand supports NFS, CIFS as File access protocols and FC , iSCSI and FCoE as block access protocols. With the realese of EMC VNX 7500, the system supports upto 1000 disks with flash / SAS / NL-SAS as the disk options.

Management of the VNX and VNXe is been extended by Unisphere, backed with features including file-level de-duplication, comression, virtual provisioning and SAN copy.
